Wacky Weekend

9:00 AM / Comments (0) / by BayScope

Congratulations on surviving another week. Time to celebrate! This weekend there are a few very interesting events to check out. There's a Friday night game show, belly dancing Saturday Morning, and Sunday an interesting science festival just to name a few. Liven up your weekend with a few things you wouldn't normally do.

FRIDAY

The Edwardian World's Faire
The Regency Ballroom
1300 Van Ness, SF

If you have a love for the "days of old" then this is a great event for you. The Edwardian World Fair is here and today you can buy all the wigs and corsets you can carry. Enjoy some great performances, art pieces and authentic food and music! Meet people from all around the world! Tickets are still available here but get them before they're gone.

70's Party
Element Lounge
1028 Geary St., San Francisco

Step a few centuries forward and you'll enter into the 70's realm. For the 28th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade case, NARAL-Pro Choice California is hosting a 70's party with no cover! Also, the first 100 receive free drinks. Party starts at 8pm, and don't forget the tie-dye!

"Match Game" Gameshow!
CELL Space
19th and Bryant, San Francisco

Who doesn't want to be on a gameshow? Though we may not have gotten the magic call offering us a chance to win a million dollars, we can still enjoy watching someone else take a stab at it. This show will include some local celebrities and the winnings will go to some great charities. Tickets are still available here so get them now before they're gone. You're sure to have a few great laughs.

SATURDAY

Beginner's Belly Dancing
Sports Basement - Potrero Hill
1590 Bryant St., San Francisco

I don't think there's one person who hasn't been amazed by the art of belly dancing. This special beginner's class caters to those with perfectly sculpted stomachs, and the rest of us without. You will definitely learn a lot here and come out with a greater respect for the Middle Eastern culture. This is a free event so show up early to shake those hips! Class starts at 10am!

The Edwardian Vendor Bazaar & Ball
The Regency Ballroom
1300 Van Ness, San Francisco

Today is part 2 of the Edwardian festival! It's free for everyone until 6! Bring a camera or just come in costume yourself and enjoy the festivities. Then don't forget to get your ticket for tonight! The Ball starts at 8pm and lasts till 2am tomorrow! Don't get stuck waiting for next year.

Uncomfortable Zones of Fun - Performance
511 48th St., (at Telegraph), Oakland

Of all things underground, this is one that you'll want to see. It's a great interactive performance put on by the Temescal Arts Center in Oakland. Audience participation is a must, and admission is free, but donations are "greatly appreciated." Expect to hear singers, see dancers, applaud actors and take great pictures. There will be a lot going on with you right in the midst of it. Show starts at 8, so don't be late.

SUNDAY

Cal Science & Engineering Festival
Sutardja Hall at UC Berkeley

This is the 1st ever Cal Science & Engineering festival! UC Berkeley really planned this event out well and have some great exhibits planned for both young and old. There will be lots of activities so be prepared to get your hands dirty! The Festival starts at 11 and ends at 3 so make some time to stop by.

Dollar Day at Golden Gate Fields
1100 Eastshore Highway, Berkeley

Watching a horse race on television is fine, but seeing it live is a whole different story. The Golden Gate Fields is a great place to spend a day, and who can beat paying only a dollar? Bring the kids or just a friend and bet on a horse, eat a hot dog, or enjoy the view. Gates open at 10!
