Movies, Books, and Poetry

9:00 AM / Comments (0) / by BayScope

So it's Wednesday, and personally I'm looking forward to the MacWorld expo that starts tomorrow. Unfortunately, it's still a full 24 hours away, so until then we'll have to entertain ourselves with what's been scheduled today. I found a great old movie, and interesting book reading, and another great poetry show. Enjoy.

Free Movie: "Mallrats"
Actual Cafe
6334 San Pablo Ave, Oakland

So if you love movies, and especially one's from the 90's, then head on over to the Actual Cafe for a 6pm showing of "Mallrats." It's a great, inexpensive way to spend your early evening. There will be plenty of people to mix and mingle with, but just get there early enough to grab a seat and a free bag of popcorn.

Poetry Reading featuring Michael McClure
City Lights Bookstore
261 Columbus Ave, San Francisco

So if you don't know, Michael McCure is a writer who recently wrote and published a book of poems entitled "Of Indigo and Saffron." For those of us in need of some inspiration, Michael will be reading his poems aloud at the City Lights Bookstore. Reading starts at 7pm, and if you're lucky enough you may even received and autographed copy.

Poetry Slam
The Starry Plough Pub
3101 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley

It's that time again at the Irish Pub. The infamous Berzerkeley poetry slam! Show up by at least 7:30pm if you plan on entering to win the prize money. If you're more of an audience type of person, you should probably still get there by 7:30. Seats fill up fast. The winner is awarded cold hard cash, and the audience chooses who wins and who loses. Plan to stay out late for this event. Starts at 8pm with an $8 cover.
