One thing I find interesting about the weekend is that even though it doesn't officially start until Saturday, everyone is more than happy to begin celebrating it on Friday, myself included. Check out these cool things happening today.


Walk to Stop Diabetes 2011
Justin Herman Plaza

The American Diabetes Association will be holding their annual Step Out walk at 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, to support diabetes research and education. Come walk Friday, Sept. 30, at Noon at Justin Herman Plaza. The lunchtime charity event will have live music, a scenic route along the Embarcadero, a delicious lunch, and lots of fun activities! Join friends, community members and supporters in a 2-mile walk to support diabetes research, education and outreach.

The Oakland Museum of California comes alive with an evening of food, cocktails, music, performances, and eco-friendly activities that will inspire you to take action to save the environment. Learn how making small changes can have big consequences on conserving our natural world, and discover ways to empower the adventurer/ explorer/ eco-pioneer in you. Don't miss the mustache and beard contest--OMCA is in search of the "Best John Muir Beard in the Bay!"


Drunken Disco Scavenger Hunt

Squeeze into those sweet polyester pants, roll out those 4 inch collars and fuss up those 'fros because this is going to be a wild night of disco dashing scavenger hunting as you and your team race around searching for clues, racking up points, encountering CLASH agents, battling opposing teams for bonus points and drinking your asses off along the way.  Kool & The Gang cover band at the finish line!  This is not your grandma's scavenger hunt.  $15 cover/21+
