Free Dance Performances

A free, noontime public performance by some of San Francisco’s most innovative, fun and entertaining performing artists will mark the 50th anniversary of the City’s Grants for the Arts program of the Hotel Tax Fund, which uses tourism tax dollars to promote San Francisco for tourism.


Greek Festival

Come experience the sights, music, and the Flavors of Greece at the Church of the Resurrection 40th annual Greek Festival located at 20104 Center Street in Castro Valley California where the grounds are transformed into a mini-Greek town!

You can shop at the expanded "Agora" (Market place), eat delicious and authentic food of the Mediterranean, partake in lively Greek Folk dancing and spend time quenching your thirst at the Taverna (bar) featuring Greek beer, wine and many specialty drinks. Or have coffee at the Kafenion (coffee house) while you snack on the savories or delicious Greek pastries!


Oakland Art Murmur - Art Walk

Oakland Art Murmur is a group of nearly 20 galleries in Oakland that have coordinated openings Wander from gallery to gallery, sample free nibbles, drink some free wine, see occasional outdoor movies and fine some new artists to love at venues like 21 Grand, Blank Space, Luka’s Taproom, Rowan Morrison, Rock Paper Scissors Collective and more.

Every First Friday of the month, member galleries are open to the public from 6-9 pm. Additionally 23rd Street between Telegraph and Valley is closed to car traffic, and craft, art, and food vendors are set up along this corridor.

It just hit me that we have officially entered October. The summer is officially gone and Halloween is right around the corner. You can also bid farewell to the semi-decent weather we've been having lately too. Rain is in the forecast so start looking for things to do indoors. Here are a few ideas.


Hoop Dance Class

Castro Street Fair 2011

The Castro Street Fair is a community street celebration that was founded by Harvey Milk in 1974. Hundreds of local artists, vendors, craftspeople, and organizations line the streets and celebrate the diversity of the neighborhood. Stages with live entertainment and dance stages can be found throughout the fairgrounds.

Oakland's family friendly craft beer festival. Oaktoberfest celebrates the history, the flavors, and the people of the Bay Area. Oakland’s Dimond District hosts this one-of-a-kind Fall Festival, welcoming thousands with craft beer & food, entertainment, arts, and ecology. The Dimond continues a tradition as an entertainment destination, begun in the early 1900’s when Beer Gardens and German vacation resorts lined the boulevard. Oaktoberfest will bring world-class beer to the tented beer hall, serving steins of traditional German flavors and regional brew pub favorites.

With the neon lights of North Beach we're surprised we've never thought of this before.  Bring a white t-shirt that can be drawn on and a highlighter with you as you and your team run around the wild streets of North Beach, in and out of bars and strip clubs, up and down staircases and all around the neighborhood, tagging other teams with highlighters to deduct points from them and drinking like there's no tomorrow along the way.  Might not want to bring your grandma to this one.
