One thing I find interesting about the weekend is that even though it doesn't officially start until Saturday, everyone is more than happy to begin celebrating it on Friday, myself included. Check out these cool things happening today.


Walk to Stop Diabetes 2011

The American Diabetes Association will be holding their annual Step Out walk at 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, to support diabetes research and education. Come walk Friday, Sept. 30, at Noon at Justin Herman Plaza. The lunchtime charity event will have live music, a scenic route along the Embarcadero, a delicious lunch, and lots of fun activities! Join friends, community members and supporters in a 2-mile walk to support diabetes research, education and outreach.

We are very excited about our next show at UN Plaza! It is part of the 24 Days of Central Market Arts Festival and in co-operation with the San Francisco Arts Market at the United Nations Plaza in San Francisco’s Civic Center. The event, “Streaming Circus” is on Thursday, September 29th from 2-5pm and is FREE! There will be an after-school circus show and free instruction in the circus arts for children.

We will perform a Medley including these 5 songs.

Bottom of the Hill, one of the best breeding grounds for up-and-coming rock bands is hosting a free Monday night concert with noise/punk band Deep Teens and DJ Junkdrawer on Monday September 26th. The show, part of their periodic “Monday’s Bargain Basement” series is free for anyone 21 and over and the first 20 people receive a free compilation CD.
Concert is free, but donations accepted for band and DJs.

Celebrate the start of harvest 2011 with Crushpad on Saturday Sept 24th, 2011.  Spend the afternoon exploring the grounds of our new home in Sonoma at the historic Sebastiani Winery, tasting wines at our newly opened tasting room and see the cellar in preparation for harvest. We will be showcasing wines from several past vintages as well as giving you a sneak peek of wines still aging in barrel.  There will be a fermentation station where you will be able to get a taste of the harvest excitement by dunking your hands in a fermenting bin of grapes and sampling grape juice as it converts to wine.

The Lafayette Art & Wine Festival, held each year on the third weekend in September, is the largest event in Lamorinda and one of the five biggest outdoor festivals in Contra Costa County. Over 50,000 attended in 2010, strolling among stalls of art, handmade crafts, sampling foods from top local restaurants, and enjoying quality wines and microbrews.

The festival will include a street bazaar, live entertainment, martial arts demonstrations and multiple parades to be held along historic Grant Avenue between California Street and Columbus Avenue until 6pm daily. Over 100,000 people are expected to attend the Moon Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday celebration. Free to the public.


Airbnb 1st Annual Swap Meet Party

Japantown Jazz Festival

Join us for a celebration of jazz in San Francisco's Japantown. Japantown's location next to the "Harlem of the West", the Fillmore has led to it becoming a hotbed for cutting edge jazz throughout the years. To celebrate this community and sounds we've recruited three leading groups of musicians from Japantown to celebrate. A group hailing from Oakland, Swoon will bring their blend chamber rock, funk, world, jazz and a hint of R&B to the Kaiser Center’s Roof Garden. But the fun doesn’t end after their set, because you can see a whole host of local jambands and singer-songwriters every Friday from noon to 1 p.m. in the garden. And for those who don’t want to rock out with a rumbling stomach, the Center also offers lemonade and $8 bagged lunches, which includes a sandwich, chips and a cookie, at every show.
